The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is in Washington for Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend. POLITICO Influence reported that SEMA met with IndyCar owner Roger Penske, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum about the economic and cultural value of motorsports and local racetracks. SEMA also launched a five-figure Washington digital campaign urging Congress to pass the bipartisan Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act (H.R. 2231 / S. 1763), which would make permanent the seven-year recovery period for investments in motorsports entertainment complexes. On August 21, SEMA hosted a private tour of the Grand Prix track for industry professionals and administration and Hill staff, including Rep. Diana Harshbarger; Kalyn Schroeder and Connor Chapinski of Rep. Jay Obernolte's office; Matt Furlow of the House Energy and Commerce Committee; Kate MacGregor and Andrew Mott of the Interior Department; James Mann and JT Jezierski of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito's office; Bill Bader of Summit Motorsports Park; Doug Lane of Motor State Distributing; and Rex Wheeler of Owosso Speedway.
